In this exclusive interview, former Chilliwack school trustee Barry Neufeld speaks out for the first time since the BC Human Rights Tribunal (BCHRT) ordered him to pay $750,000 for his public criticism of SOGI 123 (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) resources in BC schools.
The February 18, 2026 ruling found some of his statements “discriminatory” and amounting to “hate speech” under the Human Rights Code – a decision sparking outrage over free speech in Canada.
Barry shares his background in youth corrections, patterns of grooming he witnessed, why he sees gender ideology as a red flag, and his refusal to apologize or settle despite years of lawfare.
We discuss the “prophet” label from the decision, international shifts against youth transitions (Cass Review, UK pauses), the debunked “suicide myth,” and why this case is a chilling precedent for parents, teachers, and trustees.
Reactions pouring in: Pierre Poilievre calls it “insane,” Elon Musk compares it to Soviet show trials, John Cleese skips BC tour dates.
Is this Orwellian overreach?

BC Human Rights Tribunal Decision Issued Feb. 18 2026 / File: CS-001372
Quoted from the decision: "... In 2017, the Ministry approved resources and tools aimed at fostering a SOGI-inclusive education environment in all schools. These resources are referred to as “SOGI 1 2 3”.
... The backlash to SOGI 1 2 3 was immediate. One of its loudest critics was the Respondent, Barry Neufeld. At the time, Mr. Neufeld was an elected trustee of the Chilliwack Board of Education [the Board]. For the next five years of his tenure as a trustee, Mr. Neufeld engaged in a high-profile public campaign against SOGI 1 2 3..."
