“The last time I wrote to you about courageous former school trustee Barry Neufeld was in June of this year. At the time he had finally completed his Human Rights hearing in May 2025. The decision for this hearing is expected early in 2026.
Time Elapsed Since Barry Neufeld Charged With Hate Crime:
7 years, 10 months, 9 days (2869 days)
Out of the blue, last Monday, I received a text from Barry stating he was heading off to Jail in Chilliwack, BC. Others may have seen Barry’s newsletter circulated on the internet with the same details.
I was quite surprised, and immediately called him to learn more. Thankfully, he was only in jail for the day, and I was able to talk to him the next day.
Turns out Barry was unable to be served by someone he lost a defamation suit to, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
While in jail, sitting in a cinder block cement room, by himself, without a book to read, only able to think and pray, he was summoned to court, and a date was set to go over his finances to see what if any of the damages he could pay. Barry is in court this week on this issue, and I will update you when I know more.
This is another detail in a long and complicated ordeal, which centers around a human rights complaint made about 8 years ago.
How did this Human Rights complaint start? In 2017, while a trustee for a local BC school board, Barry made some comments critical of teaching gender ideology to young children in BC schools. One thing he said was that “transitioning children is child abuse”, which led to a complaint being registered against him for hate speech.
His Human Rights trial finally concluded in May 2025, and he is expecting a decision early in 2026. If you were hoping for a fair hearing, think again. Barry’s lawyer tells me the Human Rights Tribunal didn’t even allow Barry to bring forward some of his key witnesses – including two young women who have detransitioned (in other words became transgender, but then decided it wasn’t for them), and also a gay man with a transgender child who is speaking in Barry’s favour.
It appears they don’t want to allow anything that would run counter to their “progressive” ideas.
What a shame for justice and for truth.
Barry’s name has been run through the mud, and he tells me he’s even been attacked publicly by the BC Teacher’s Union.
Given the expected unfairness and ideological nature of the tribunal, Barry and his lawyer believe he will lose. Barry says the tribunal will likely charge him $750,000 in fees – an astronomical sum that he is unable to pay.
Barry is not going to rollover, and will appeal if he loses.
Barry needs your help today to fight this Human Rights charge, especially since it’s clear the tribunal played fast and loose with the rules by denying his key witnesses.”
